By the fall of 2011, Students for Haiti at the University of Delaware had grown significantly, and its leaders were taking steps to ensure a large donor base and the long-term perpetuation of the organization. Leaders filed for national 501(c)(3) non-profit status with the IRS, an ordinarily onerous process greatly expedited by the help of a private contractor.

In December, Students for Haiti, Inc. received 501(c)(3) approval. After a successful launch event in the spring of 2012 and the graduation of its non-profit leaders, Students for Haiti, Inc. pressed forward, eager to inspire new student leaders to focus on Haiti.
