Group's Milestones and Achievements
Students for Haiti at the University of Delaware was founded by former UD student and 2010 Rhodes Scholar, Matthew Watters, who was extremely passionate about providing the people of Haiti with sustainable healthcare. Since its beginning in 2010, Students for Haiti has accomplished various feats. In addition to raising $80,000 to rebuild the Villa Health Clinic in Fond de Blancs, Haiti, and working with the Spanish Red Cross, Students for Haiti also gained non-profit status in December of 2011. Recently, Students for Haiti formed partnerships with several non-profit organizations including Haiti Family Initiative and Little Footprints Big Steps. Students for Haiti at UD has raised over $1,000 for Haiti Family Initiative’s women's and children's wellness clinic, medical clinic, women's group, children's summer camp, and Foreign Language Institute English Language School in Jacmel, Haiti. SFH has also fundraised significantly for Little Footprints Big Steps, which rescues children from abuse and homelessness and promotes sustainable development and strong families. This past semester, SFH started fundraising for the HERO project, which is building a mobile clinic in Les Cayes, Haiti, that focuses on disaster relief.
