Group's Milestones and Achievements
Since 2001, VHP has partnered with Chermaitre, a village in northwest Haiti, to improve education, health care, clean water access, reforestation, and women's opportunities in the area. Over the past 13 years, we have built a 7-room primary school, planted thousands of trees, installed a water access system, and, most recently, constructed and staffed a medical clinic. Children have also been eating their only meal of the day four times a week through a lunch program at school. Plans are underway to establish a cooperative led by women in Chermaitre, so they can learn, develop, and share marketable skills. All these initiatives are funded steadily through the sale of Haitian art in the US, mostly in the tri-state area.
