Group's Milestones and Achievements
The UC Haiti Initiative (UCHI) is a global partnership for higher education that connects students, faculty, administrators and alumni from the University of California and the State University of Haiti to create educational, research and public service partnerships towards the development of Haiti. Below are some of our major achievements and ongoing projects.
In 2012-13, UCHI was the recipient of the University of California’s Office of the President’s Award for Excellence in Student Leadership.
ADAPT-Haiti Project- The UC Davis chapter, and project affiliates, recently received a $750,000 grant from the USDA to fund this three year project. Alliance for the Development of Agricultural Professional Training in Haiti (ADAPT-Haiti) aims to revitalize mid-level vocational agriculture EMA (ecoles moyennes agricoles) training schools through intensive training of school faculty and administrators in experiential learning, curriculum development, and school administration and finance.
Pediatrics Sub-Specialty Training Project- The UC Davis chapter and School of Medicine have established this medical training program in Haiti. The project aims to strengthen sub-specialty clinical care and training at HUEH’s (Haiti’s state hospital) pediatric service. This will involve periodic visits by UC pediatric sub-specialists who will work side by side with HUEH attendings, creating a sustainable partnership to improve pediatric care by supplementing the training of current and future Haitian pediatricians.
