PeaceQuilts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT organization relieving poverty in Haiti by establishing and supporting independent, MEMBER-OWNED, WOMEN'S SEWING cooperatives IN HAITI.

Areas of Intervention

Women & Children

Description of the Project
Currently PEACEQUILTS works with approximately 100 women organized into cooperatives in Lilavois, DAMASSIN, Saut-D'eau, and Cité Soleil, Port-au-Prince. We provide training, materials, supplies, marketing assistance, and educational opportunities. We also market their one-of-a-kind art quilts and a product line of affordable quilted items which are now being sold in retail shops AND online. Our goal is to help each cooperative to become self-managed and self-sustaining. PeaceQuilts offers a safe, supportive work environment, a living wage, a chance to express creativity and explore new talents. In Haiti, this is all too rare - especially for women. But with a job, one woman can do so much: feed and shelter her parents, siblings, uncles & aunts, send her children to school, and help rebuild her community.   Through PeaceQuilts, nearly 100 women in 6 cooperatives across central and southern Haiti are learning and applying new skills to make beautiful quilts and other household items. They are building their own businesses to create a better life for themselves and their loved ones. We also have an online store where you can shop for unique "gifts from the heart" featuring the women's handiwork - including throw quilts, bags, jewelry, metalwork and more!
