Too often when we speak of Haiti and the Haitian people we do so by pity,
reflecting on how unfortunate their situation is, and equate them to helpless
children that we are compelled to assist. Or, we speak of them as cheerful
people who are so grateful, despite hardship. Both assertions are inaccurate. Donors need to connect with them in a responsible, sustainable manner to create transformational change.
